Fully Concealed Hand in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points and Rules

Fully Concealed Hand example: 1-2-3 and 4-5-6 characters, 7-8-9 dots, 3-4-5 bamboo and a pair of 5 dots, all self-drawn

In Chinese Official Mahjong, Fully Concealed Hand (不求人) is worth 4 points: you made no chows, pungs or exposed kongs, and the winning tile is self-drawn. That's Concealed Hand (2) plus Self-Drawn (1) plus one extra point, so with Fully Concealed Concealed Hand and Self-Drawn are not counted again.

The rules for Fully Concealed Hand

What Fully Concealed Hand no longer counts

The other way round, fan that are always concealed — Seven Pairs, Thirteen Orphans, Lesser Honors and Knitted Tiles, Greater Honors and Knitted Tiles, Nine Gates, Seven Shifted Pairs — don't count Fully Concealed. Then it's Fully Concealed that is skipped, so Self-Drawn's 1 point still counts: self-drawn Seven Pairs is Seven Pairs plus Self-Drawn, not plus Fully Concealed.

Four Concealed Pungs is different: it only excludes Concealed Hand, so a self-drawn Four Concealed Pungs still scores Fully Concealed. Out with Replacement Tile and Last Tile Draw exclude Self-Drawn, but Fully Concealed still counts with them.

FAQ

How many points is Fully Concealed Hand?

Fully Concealed Hand is worth 4 points in Chinese Official Mahjong: no chows, pungs or exposed kongs, and a self-drawn win. Concealed Hand and Self-Drawn are not counted again.

How is it different from Concealed Hand and Self-Drawn?

Concealed Hand (2) is no claims, won on a discard; Self-Drawn (1) is drawing your own winning tile, even after claims; when both apply you get Fully Concealed, 4 points, instead of the two.

Is self-drawn Seven Pairs Fully Concealed?

No. Seven Pairs doesn't count Fully Concealed, but Self-Drawn's 1 point still counts; the same goes for self-drawn Thirteen Orphans and the knitted hands.
