Concealed Kong in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points, Concealed Hand and Examples
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Concealed Kong (暗杠) is worth 2 points: you win with one kong whose four tiles you all drew yourself and declared on your own turn, with no discard involved.

The rules for Concealed Kong
- All four tiles are self-drawn, and you declare the kong after your draw
- A kong using a discard (claimed or promoted) is a Melded Kong (1)
- A concealed kong is not a claim: the hand is still Concealed (2) or Fully Concealed (4) if you self-draw
- It also counts as a concealed pung toward Two or Three Concealed Pungs
What Concealed Kong does not combine with
- Two concealed kongs: Two Concealed Kongs (6) instead
- Three or four kongs: Three Kongs (32) or Four Kongs (88) instead
- One concealed plus one melded kong: scored separately, 3 points
The tiles still score: a dragon kong is a Dragon Pung, a terminal kong a Pung of Terminals or Honors. Four identical tiles you did not declare are Tile Hog; once declared as a kong, Tile Hog no longer applies.

Why it helps you reach 8
Two points plus "the hand stays concealed" is a useful combination when you are a few points short:
- Concealed Hand (2) + Concealed Kong (2) is already 4; one Dragon Pung, wind pung or Two Concealed Pungs more and you are there.
- The kong gives an extra draw, and possibly Out with Replacement Tile (8).
- When not to kong: when one of the four tiles is part of a chow shape (3333 + 45 loses the 345 option), or when you are already waiting and the kong would change your wait.
