Concealed Hand in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points and Rules
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Concealed Hand (门前清) is worth 2 points: you made no chows, pungs or exposed kongs — every tile came from your own draws — and you win on someone else's discard. If the winning tile is self-drawn, it's not Concealed Hand but Fully Concealed Hand, 4 points.

The rules for Concealed Hand
- No chows, no pungs, no exposed kongs (a kong on a discard, or adding to a claimed pung, is exposed)
- Concealed kongs are fine: a kong of four tiles you drew yourself doesn't break it
- You win on a discard — robbing a kong counts too
- Self-drawn wins score Fully Concealed instead; the two never score together
Which fan absorb Concealed Hand
- Fully Concealed Hand: Concealed Hand plus a self-draw becomes Fully Concealed, and Concealed Hand (and Self-Drawn) are not counted again.
- Fan that are always concealed: Seven Pairs, Thirteen Orphans, Lesser Honors and Knitted Tiles, Greater Honors and Knitted Tiles, Nine Gates, Seven Shifted Pairs, plus Four Concealed Pungs — the fan table says Concealed Hand is not counted with them.
Everything else stacks with Concealed Hand: All Chows, All Simples, Mixed Straight, Pure Straight, Half Flush, Concealed Kong, Three Concealed Pungs and so on.

Why Concealed Hand matters for reaching 8
With the 8-point minimum, 2 points is often the difference between winning and not:
- Mixed Straight and Mixed Triple Chow are 8 points and enough on their own; Mixed Shifted Chows, Half Flush, All Types and All Pungs are only 6, and Concealed Hand tops them up exactly.
- Claiming a tile can save a turn, but it costs Concealed Hand's 2 points. With no other source of points, don't claim.
- A concealed ready hand that self-draws scores Fully Concealed, 4 points — 2 more.
Concealed Hand odds
In 4,000 hands of the site's AI playing normally, Concealed Hand appears in 25% of wins, averaging 14.0 points; concealed hands that were self-drawn (Fully Concealed) make up another 9.8%.
