Out with Replacement Tile in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points, Conditions and Examples
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Out with Replacement Tile (杠上开花, "blossom on the kong") is worth 8 points: after declaring a kong you take a replacement tile from the wall, and that tile completes your hand. On its own it reaches the 8-point minimum; under the non-repeat principle Self-Drawn is not counted.

The conditions
- The winning tile is the replacement tile drawn after a kong, so it is a self-draw
- Concealed kongs, exposed kongs (on a discard) and added kongs all qualify; an added kong only gets its replacement if nobody robs it
- A flower replacement does not count: the tile drawn after exposing a flower is not a kong replacement (this site's engine agrees)
- If the kong replacement is itself a flower and you draw again, this site's engine still treats the next tile as the kong replacement
- Someone winning on the discard made right after a kong ("kong-shot" in some styles) is not a fan in MCR
What it does not combine with
- Self-Drawn (1 point) is not counted: the win is a self-draw by definition
- The kong itself still scores: Melded Kong 1, Concealed Kong 2; two or more kongs give Two Melded Kongs, Two Concealed Kongs or Three Kongs
- A hand that is concealed apart from concealed kongs still scores Fully Concealed Hand (4)
- If the replacement is also the last tile of the wall, this site's engine counts both Out with Replacement Tile and Last Tile Draw

How often it happens
You need a kong first, and then the one replacement tile has to be your winner. In 4,000 computer games on this site there were 3,849 wins and 12 were Out with Replacement Tile (0.31%). The count is small, so take it as a rough indication.
When to declare a kong
- Already waiting with four of a kind (or the fourth tile of a pung): if the kong doesn't damage your wait, you get an extra draw, a hit is Out with Replacement Tile, and the kong scores too.
- Check the wait first: a concealed kong removes four tiles from your hand and can shrink your wait.
- Added kongs can be robbed: if someone may be waiting on that tile, the kong hands them Robbing the Kong.
