Two Melded Kongs in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points and Examples
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Two Melded Kongs (双明杠) is worth 4 points: when you win you have two melded kongs. A melded kong uses someone else's tile: either you hold three and claim the fourth from a discard, or you pung first and later add the fourth tile you draw (a promoted kong).

The rules for Two Melded Kongs
- Both kongs are melded: claimed from a discard, or promoted from a pung
- One melded plus one concealed kong is not Two Melded Kongs — it scores Melded Kong (1) plus Concealed Kong (2)
- Two concealed kongs are Two Concealed Kongs (6); three or more kongs are Three Kongs (32); neither adds Two Melded Kongs
- Melded kongs are exposed, so the hand cannot be Concealed
What Two Melded Kongs does not combine with
- Melded Kong (1): the two kongs are scored together, not one by one
The kongs still count as pungs: terminal or honor kongs score Pung of Terminals or Honors, dragon kongs score Dragon Pung, and four pungs in total score All Pungs.

How to reach 8 points
Two Melded Kongs is only 4, and because the hand is open Concealed Hand is not available, so you need 4 more. Common ways:
| Combination | Points |
|---|---|
| Two Melded Kongs + Dragon Pung + Prevalent or Seat Wind | 8 |
| Two Melded Kongs + All Pungs | 10 |
| Two Melded Kongs + Two Dragon Pungs | 10 |
| Two Melded Kongs + Half Flush | 10 |
A melded kong gives you an extra draw, but it also shows your hand. Before you kong, know where the 8 points come from: two simple kongs plus chows often stall below 8.

FAQ
How many points is Two Melded Kongs?
4 points in Chinese Official Mahjong, replacing Melded Kong. It is not enough on its own — you need 4 more for the 8-point minimum.
What about one melded and one concealed kong?
That is not Two Melded Kongs. You score Melded Kong (1) plus Concealed Kong (2), 3 points in total.
Is a promoted kong a melded kong?
Yes. Adding the fourth tile to a claimed pung uses another player's discard, so it is melded. To practise when to kong, play MCR online against the computer.
