Three-Suited Terminal Chows in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points and Examples
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Three-Suited Terminal Chows (三色双龙会) is worth 16 points: two suits each contain a 1-2-3 and a 7-8-9 chow (two Two Terminal Chows), and the pair is the 5 of the third suit. There is exactly one way to arrange it, and it clears the 8-point minimum easily.

The rules for Three-Suited Terminal Chows
- All four sets are chows: a 1-2-3 and a 7-8-9 in each of two suits
- The pair must be the 5 of the third suit (terminal chows in characters and dots means a pair of 5 bamboo)
- Claimed chows count; no concealed requirement
- Everything in one suit (1-2-3, 1-2-3, 7-8-9, 7-8-9 with a pair of 5s) is Pure Terminal Chows, 64 points
What Three-Suited Terminal Chows does not combine with
It already contains the following, which are not scored again:
- All Chows (2 points): four chows and a suited pair are All Chows by definition
- No Honors (1 point)
- Two Terminal Chows and Mixed Double Chow: each suit's 1-2-3 + 7-8-9 would be Two Terminal Chows, and the matching chows across the two suits would be Mixed Double Chows; all four chows are used by this fan, so none of those count
Fan unrelated to the shape — Concealed Hand, Single Wait, Fully Concealed Hand, Self-Drawn — still count.

How it relates to other fan
- Pure Terminal Chows: 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 7-8-9, 7-8-9 of one suit with a pair of 5s of that suit, 64 points.
- Two Terminal Chows: 1-2-3 + 7-8-9 of one suit, 1 point. Two of those plus a pair of 5s in the third suit is this hand.
- Mixed Straight: 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9 across the suits, 8 points. This hand has no 4-5-6, so the two never coincide.
- Outside Hand: every set and the pair must contain a terminal or honor; here the pair is a 5, so it is not an Outside Hand.
Three-Suited Terminal Chows odds
The four chows must split exactly into two suits, and the pair must be the 5 of the third — the shape is completely fixed and rarely planned. In 3,849 winning hands of bot play on this site it appeared only 0 times; the sample is too small for a reliable rate.
How to build Three-Suited Terminal Chows
- One suit already has 1-2-3 + 7-8-9 and another has a 1-2 or 8-9 shape, plus a 5 in the third suit: keep this route in mind.
- The pair must be a 5: the 4 and 6 of the third suit are useless; keep a pair of 5s, or a single 5 to wait on.
- Chow if needed: the missing 1-2-3 or 7-8-9 can be claimed, at the cost of Concealed Hand.
- If it falls apart, each suit's terminal chows still score 1 point; switch to Mixed Straight or another route.
