Last Tile in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points, How to Count It and Examples
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Last Tile (和绝张) is worth 4 points: the other three copies of your winning tile are already visible on the table — in the discards or in someone's exposed chow, pung or kong — so you win on the very last one. It counts whether you win on a discard or by self-draw.

How to count it
- Only tiles visible on the table count: every player's discards and all exposed sets
- Tiles in your own hand don't count: if you hold one and two are on the table, winning on the fourth is not Last Tile. So a single wait on a tile you hold can never be Last Tile; Last Tile usually comes from a two-sided, closed or edge wait on a tile you don't hold
- Concealed kongs don't count: they are face down and nobody can see what they are (this site's engine agrees)
- On a discard win, the discarded tile you are taking is not one of the three
What it does not combine with
- Last Tile has no "not counted" entries of its own; Concealed Hand, All Chows, Closed Wait, Self-Drawn and so on stack normally
- Robbing the Kong does not also score Last Tile: the robbed tile is always the fourth (the other three sit in that player's pung), so Robbing the Kong (8) already includes it
- It combines with Last Tile Claim and Last Tile Draw

How often it happens
Among the situational fan, Last Tile is one of the more common: later in the hand it is quite usual that three copies of your waiting tile are already out. In 4,000 computer games on this site there were 3,849 wins, 3.6% of them with Last Tile, and 30% of those were self-drawn.
Using it
- Don't wait on a single remaining tile just for Last Tile: with one tile left your chances are slim; Last Tile is a bonus when it happens.
- When short of points, count it in: if three of your waiting tile are already out, a win adds 4 points — often exactly what you need for 8.
- As the discarder, think again: a tile with three copies showing is not automatically safe; a closed- or edge-wait player may be waiting for the last one, and people tend to throw such tiles.

How many points is Last Tile?

Do tiles in my own hand count toward the three?
No. Only tiles shown on the table count — discards and exposed sets. Your own concealed tiles and concealed kongs don't.
