Last Tile Claim in Chinese Official Mahjong (MCR): Points, Examples and the Last Tile Draw Difference
In Chinese Official Mahjong, Last Tile Claim (海底捞月) is worth 8 points: once the last tile of the wall has been drawn, the player who drew it discards — the last discard of the hand — and that tile completes your hand. That alone reaches the 8-point minimum.

The conditions
- The winning tile is the discard made after the wall ran out; you win on someone else's tile
- This site's engine: that tile can only be claimed for a win — no chow, pung or kong (there is nothing left to draw afterwards)
- Concealed or with claimed sets — both are fine; any hand shape
- Self-drawing the last tile is not Last Tile Claim but Last Tile Draw
Last Tile Claim vs Last Tile Draw
The MCR names are the opposite of the Taiwanese and Sichuan ones:
| Situation | Chinese Official (MCR) | Taiwanese / Sichuan mahjong |
|---|---|---|
| Self-draw the last wall tile | 妙手回春 Last Tile Draw, 8 points | 海底撈月 |
| Win on the last discard | 海底捞月 Last Tile Claim, 8 points | 河底撈魚 (Taiwan), 海底炮 (Sichuan) |
What it combines with
Last Tile Claim has no "not counted" entries in the fan table, so everything else stacks: Concealed Hand, All Chows, even Last Tile if the last discard happens to be the fourth of its kind. Like Last Tile Draw and Robbing the Kong it is worth 8 on its own, so it can turn a discard win of only one or two points — normally illegal — into a legal win.

Won on a discard
| All Chows | 2 |
| Total | 2 pt |

Below 8 points — not allowed to win.
Not counted (implied by a bigger fan): No Honors
How often it happens
Nobody may win before the wall runs out, and the very last discard has to be your tile. In 4,000 computer games on this site there were 3,849 wins, 11 of them Last Tile Claim (0.29%), against 0.13% for Last Tile Draw. In principle Last Tile Claim has more chances: only one player draws the last tile, but three players can win on the last discard. Both counts are small, so read them as rough indications only.
Playing the last few tiles
- Still waiting? Keep the hand: even if you are short of 8, a last discard can supply the missing points.
- The last discarder must be careful: three players can win on that tile, so whoever draws last should throw the safest tile they have.
- To try it, play MCR online against the computer.
In other mahjong styles
Winning on the last discard elsewhere:

- Sichuan mahjong: 海底炮, 1 fan (Sichuan mahjong Last-Tile Discard)
- Japanese riichi mahjong: Houtei, 1 han (riichi yaku list)
FAQ

8 points in Chinese Official Mahjong — enough for the minimum on its own.

No. In MCR 海底捞月 is winning on the last discard; self-drawing the last tile is 妙手回春 (Last Tile Draw), also 8 points.
Can the last discard be punged?
Not on this site: the wall is empty, so that tile can only be claimed to win — no chow, pung or kong.
